The International Court of Justice (ICJ) revealed that Chile has requested to join the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel for its actions in Gaza. The ICJ received Chile’s request under the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Chile aims to offer its perspective on the interpretation of the convention’s provisions linked to the case. Chile emphasized the significance of interpreting key articles within the Genocide Convention.
Both Israel and South Africa have been asked to submit written responses to Chile’s request. Chile is the eighth nation to participate in the case, following countries like Nicaragua, Colombia, and Palestine.
This development highlights the global attention and concern regarding the Gaza conflict, with countries worldwide actively engaging with the legal proceedings at the ICJ.
