Mehmet Suat Eygi is calling for the US to launch an investigation into the death of his daughter, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, at the hands of Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank. Aysenur, a Turkish-American activist, was killed during protests against settlements in the West Bank. Her father expressed gratitude for Turkey’s decision to conduct an independent investigation and urged the US to do the same.
Speaking from western Turkey, Mehmet Suat Eygi shared that Aysenur was a citizen of the United States, having lived there since she was 10 months old. He described her as a compassionate person who fought for environmental and human rights causes around the world. Despite having a comfortable life, she chose to follow her ideals and make a difference.
Relatives believe Aysenur was deliberately targeted by Israeli soldiers as a message to the world. The Turkish Foreign Ministry is coordinating the repatriation of Aysenur’s body, with a burial expected in her hometown of Didim. Turkey plans to pursue international arrest warrants for those responsible for her death and seek justice through a U.N. court.
