3 Red Cross Workers Killed by Shelling in Eastern Ukraine

A tragic incident occurred in eastern Ukraine when a Russian strike targeted Red Cross vehicles, resulting in the death of three people, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed the deaths of three staff members during the attack in the Donetsk region while preparing for a frontline aid distribution.

ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric condemned the attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of colleagues, emphasizing the need to protect humanitarian workers.

The Red Cross team was about to distribute aid to vulnerable households when the vehicles were hit, leaving two others injured.

Despite the vehicles being clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem, the attack occurred, raising concerns about respecting international humanitarian law.

As the world mourns the loss of these humanitarian workers, the ICRC calls for upholding international humanitarian law to prevent such tragedies in the future.
