The United States Set to Lift Restrictions on Ukraine’s Use of Western-Supplied Long-Range Missiles
A recent report reveals that while the US is signaling a soon to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied long-range missiles against military targets inside Russia, the United Kingdom has already removed such limitations. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, with Blinken emphasizing Washington’s willingness to adapt its policy as the situation in Ukraine changes.
Recent accusations by the US against Iran of providing Russia with ballistic missiles have drawn strong denials from Tehran and Moscow. The UK, France, and Germany imposed sanctions on Iran and Russia, which were criticized by Iran as based on faulty intelligence.
The British daily The Guardian reported Blinken’s hint at the White House lifting restrictions on Ukraine using long-range weapons against Russia. This decision is expected to be privately made, allowing Ukraine to use Franco-British long-range air-launched missiles on Russian military targets. However, the public announcement is likely to be delayed to prevent further provocations.
Zelensky has expressed gratitude for Western military support but stressed the need for greater aid and faster delivery. As the conflict in Ukraine continues with Russian attacks, lifting restrictions on long-range missiles could help Ukraine defend against ongoing assaults.
