GEK Terna has signed a €3.3 billion deal for the lease of a toll highway in Athens, according to sources. This agreement is crucial for the government to meet its revenue target of €5.8 billion from privatizations and stake sales in banks this year.
The 25-year concession for the 70-km Attiki Odos motorway was awarded to GEK Terna, with plans for the state to receive 7.5% of gross toll revenue annually. The highway, one of the busiest in the country, generates substantial revenues.
As part of the concession agreement, the funds are earmarked for debt repayment. Additionally, toll rates for passenger cars on Attiki Odos will be reduced from €2.80 to €2.50 starting on October 6.
