The “School Basket” is now part of a strict law on profit margins, with fines of up to 6 million euros for violations, as stated by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos. The initiative aims to regulate prices of school supplies, with recent checks revealing lower prices compared to last year.

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis emphasized the importance of the School Basket, highlighting the reduction in prices of essential school items. The decrease in prices reflects a positive trend in overall pricing, with basic household items seeing a consistent 1-2% decrease in the past few months.

Theodorikakos also addressed the impact of external factors on prices, such as the rise in olive oil prices due to production challenges in Spain. Despite inflationary pressures from energy costs, the School Basket serves as a beacon of affordability for families preparing for the upcoming school year.
