Pope Francis in Singapore: Warning on AI and Calls for Fair Wages for Migrant Workers

Pope Francis, during his visit to Singapore, highlighted the potential negative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society. He emphasized the importance of using AI to bring people closer together and promote unity and understanding. The pontiff cautioned against the risks of individuals becoming isolated in a false reality created by technology and urged for a focus on human relationships.

Additionally, Francis called for fair wages for migrant workers in the affluent city-state, emphasizing the need to protect their dignity and ensure just compensation for their contributions to society. Singapore, known for its rapid growth fueled by cheap labor, has a significant population of foreign workers, many of whom face challenges like exploitation and poor living conditions.

The pope’s remarks on fair wages for migrant workers were welcomed by advocacy groups, aligning with the International Labour Organization’s estimate of 170 million migrant workers worldwide.

As the conclusion of his Asia Pacific tour, Pope Francis held mass in front of large crowds in East Timor and Singapore. His visit to Singapore, where a significant Catholic population eagerly awaited his presence, marked the final stop before his return to Rome.
