Hyderabad is currently focusing on eradicating poliovirus by targeting chronic refusal cases during the ongoing seven-day Sub National Immunisation Days (SNID). Two men were recently arrested for persistently refusing vaccination for their children, while a woman quarreled with the vaccination team.
So far, 168,351 children have been vaccinated out of a target of 400,837, with a special focus on addressing the 1311 refusal cases identified during a previous campaign. The Deputy Commissioner, Zain Ul Abiden Memon, highlighted the efforts to apprehend the refusal cases, including cases where individuals were adamant against vaccination due to various reasons.
In one instance, an educated man in Sadaat Colony Latifabad had reservations about the vaccine based on misinformation, while in another case, a woman in the same area argued against the vaccination. Two schools were also sealed due to the school managements’ reluctance to comply with vaccination protocols.
Efforts to contain the spread of poliovirus in Hyderabad have intensified following a reported case in Liaquat Colony. With environmental samples testing positive, there is a collective effort to combat the virus and protect the community.
