New UK gov’t expected to end Turkish Cypriot isolation

Turkish Cypriot NGOs Urge UK Government for Stronger Action

Non-governmental organizations from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are calling on the new UK government for more decisive action to address the challenges faced by the Turkish Cypriot community. Alp Cengiz Alp of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce emphasized the importance of the UK’s ties with the island and urged for greater sensitivity in approaching the matters.

The NGOs are advocating for increased diplomatic efforts to end the unjust isolation of Turkish Cypriots and to ensure their safety and long-term stability. They are also seeking direct flights to Northern Cyprus to connect the community to the wider world.

The recent meetings held in London by the Protection Rights Initiative highlighted the pressing issue of property disputes in Northern Cyprus, calling it an international human rights issue that extends beyond regional concerns. The coalition urged the Labour government to prioritize this issue and condemned the actions of the Greek Cypriot administration in violating property rights.
