Malaysian Authorities Rescue Hundreds of Abused Children from Charity Homes
Malaysian authorities have conducted raids on charity homes run by the Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB), rescuing over 400 children suspected of being sexually and physically abused. Among the rescued children were 201 boys and 201 girls, aged between one and 17, who had allegedly suffered neglect, abuse, and sexual harassment.
Authorities arrested 171 adults, including religious teachers and caretakers, following the raids on 20 premises across two states. The affected children, who were reportedly the sons and daughters of GISB employees, had been subjected to various forms of abuse, including sexual abuse by adult guardians.
The case is now under investigation for sexual offences against children and human trafficking. The Selangor Islamic Religious Department and police are working together to determine the extent of the violations that occurred at the charity homes.
UNICEF has expressed shock and concern over the situation, advocating for long-term medical and psychosocial support for the rescued children. GISB has denied running the homes and stated their cooperation with authorities.
