KZN MEC: Reed Dance poster featuring Prince Simakade is a fake

The Zulu Reed Dance: A Sacred Tradition

The Zulu reed dance, a significant rite of passage for Zulu maidens, is set to take place in northern KZN from Friday to Sunday. During this ceremony, maidens present their reeds to the king, typically held in September each year.

Recently, there has been controversy surrounding the Zulu royal house, with a poster circulating that was not authorised by the royal family. Khawula, a representative from the province, emphasized their support for King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, in accordance with both the constitution and Zulu traditions.

Despite legal battles and attempts to dethrone King Misuzulu by detractors such as Prince Simakade, the royal house remains steadfast. The reed dance is a sacred event dedicated to honoring maidens who choose to lead a life of sexual abstinence.

Join us in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Zulu reed dance, as maidens come together to showcase their purity and tradition in front of the king.
