Israeli government revoked press credentials of Al Jazeera journalists, citing false content dissemination and threats to IDF. The move followed the closure of Al Jazeera’s offices and websites in Israel due to allegations of incitement of terrorism. The press office stated that the journalists’ work could jeopardize state security, leading to the revocation of press cards.
The decision will affect Al Jazeera journalists in Hebrew and Arabic but not producers or photographers. Israeli officials have been trying to close Al Jazeera’s bureau since 2017, accusing the network of incitement. A new law allowed the temporary closure of foreign networks threatening national security, enabling authorities to block broadcasts, seize equipment, and restrict access to websites.
The move has been condemned by international rights groups. Despite the controversy, Al Jazeera has vowed to continue covering events in the Palestinian territories professionally and accurately. The Qatari network, launched in 1996, remains one of the few global media outlets with a presence in both Gaza and Israel.
