Iranian President Pezeshkian Meets Head of Iraqi Kurdistan Region
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently held talks with the head of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, discussing the need for stronger relations between Tehran and Erbil for mutual progress and development. Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Barzani for attending the late Iranian President’s farewell ceremony and emphasized the importance of formulating a long-term strategic document for bilateral cooperation.
Pezeshkian also highlighted Iran’s readiness to enhance economic and commercial ties with the Kurdistan Region, citing the necessity of strengthened cooperation and improved security conditions, especially in border areas. In response, Barzani welcomed the visit as a historic occasion and expressed a desire to accelerate bilateral interactions, emphasizing the region’s commitment to supporting Iran and maintaining peaceful relations.
Barzani affirmed the region’s adherence to security agreements between Iran and Iraq and recognized Iran’s potential role in enhancing relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi central government.
