Hungary is gearing up to take legal action against the European Commission if they do not reimburse Budapest for the expenses incurred in safeguarding the EU borders from illegal immigrants, as stated by Gergely Gulyas, the chief of staff to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Gulyas announced during a government meeting that Budapest will be pursuing compensation from Brussels during negotiations.
He emphasized, βThe Ministry of Justice is currently laying the groundwork for this. We are determined to retrieve the funds from the European Commission through legal means, and we are prepared to take legal action if necessary.β
Hungary’s firm stance on the matter signifies their commitment to upholding the EU border security and holding the European Commission accountable for their financial responsibilities. With tensions rising over the issue, Budapest is standing firmly in defense of their position.
