Bandits Abduct Travellers on Gusau–Funtua Highway
Armed bandits have disrupted the busy Gusau–Funtua highway, kidnapping an unknown number of travellers. Witnesses reported that the bandits set up roadblocks, using about 50 motorcycles to abduct several people and causing a standstill for hours.
Despite military efforts, the road remains blocked with no vehicles allowed to pass. The Magazu–Kucheri Road connecting Gusau to Funtua has also been blocked by the bandits, creating fear and chaos among the commuters.
Zamfara State, like other regions in northern Nigeria, has been plagued by armed gangs involved in mass abductions for ransom and widespread violence. The fear among the people is growing as notorious bandit kingpins impose hefty levies and carry out deadly attacks in various communities.
The Chief of Defence Staff has promised to capture these criminals, but the situation remains tense with innocent lives at risk.
It is high time for authorities to take decisive action and ensure the safety of citizens in Zamfara State and other affected areas.
