Florida Dems say state is in play, but not investing efficiently.

Florida Democrats have been vocal about their belief that the Sunshine State is up for grabs in November, despite recent trends favoring Republicans. However, a closer look at the spending in the race tells a different story.

Former President Donald Trump and Senator Rick Scott are still expected to win the presidential and Senate races in Florida, but polls suggest a tighter race than initially anticipated. Democrats have expressed confidence in flipping the Senate seat, but a report from the Associated Press highlights a significant spending gap between Republicans and Democrats in the state.

Republicans and their aligned groups have poured $12.7 million into advertisement reservations through Election Day, while their Democratic counterparts have only spent $3.2 million for the Senate race. Despite this financial disadvantage, Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried remains optimistic about the party’s organizing efforts, which include door-knocking, phone calls, and text messages to millions of voters.

As the election approaches, Democrats are banking on an abortion ballot measure to boost turnout, while Republicans rely on their lead in registered voters. Polls show a closer race than in past years, with Scott leading Mucarsel-Powell by a slim margin. The overall outlook for both races remains “likely Republican” according to the Cook Political Report.
