Biden admin offers grants to fight gender violence.

Welcome to our blog on the latest initiatives announced by US President Joe Biden to combat domestic abuse and support survivors of gender-based violence. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, Biden is set to unveil a range of grants and programs aimed at addressing these critical issues.

One key initiative includes the establishment of a resource center to tackle cybercrimes like revenge porn and online stalking, as well as expanding support for local law enforcement to remove firearms from domestic abusers. Additionally, over $690 million in grant funding will be allocated to help communities address gender-based violence.

The administration will also create an office of gender-based violence through the department of housing and urban development to address survivors’ housing and economic needs. Biden, a key architect of the 1994 Violence Against Women Act, will speak to survivors and advocates to mark this significant milestone.

After expiring under President Trump in 2019, the legislation was renewed in 2022 under Biden’s leadership, showcasing a continued commitment to combating domestic abuse and supporting survivors.
