The ANC has commended the arrest of former Cape Town MMC Malusi Booi for alleged R850m tender fraud. Booi and eight other suspects, including his wife and the city’s former director of public housing, appeared in court on Wednesday.
They face charges related to 11 housing tenders and are accused of being part of an alleged criminal “enterprise” operating in the city. The state also plans to involve alleged gang boss Ralph Stanfield and his wife in the case. The arrests were made in different locations, emphasizing the scope of the alleged corruption.
The ANC in the Dullah Omar Region praised the law enforcement for their commitment to fighting corruption and upholding the rule of law. The party emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in government sectors that impact citizens’ lives.
Booi’s arrest sends a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated. The ANC urged continued support for measures ensuring accountability in all government sectors. Stanfield and Johnson, also involved in the case, are in custody for a separate offense.
