Serbian Democracy leader Aleksandar Arsenijević’s arrest in Kosovska Mitrovica sparked a reaction from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. In response, Vučić met with European mediator Miroslav Lajčak and US Ambassador Christopher Hill. He announced plans to address the public in 72 hours about the “essential and brutal attack” on the Serbian population in northern Kosovo, with far-reaching proposals to be presented to the National Assembly in October. Vučić emphasized the need to fight for Serbia’s position in the world and seek allies, accusing Kurti of seeking the destruction and persecution of the Serbian people.
He stated that important meetings were ahead and promised to contact the public with “serious measures” within 72 hours. Vučić reiterated Serbia’s openness to dialogue but emphasized that they would not allow the persecution of their population. The arrest was allegedly related to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s visit to northern Mitrovica, as reported by Klix.ba.
