In a recent session with the government, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan clarified the details of Clause 9 in the document signed between Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020. The clause focuses on unblocking all regional economic and transport links, not just facilitating communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. Pashinyan emphasized that the Republic of Armenia is responsible for guaranteeing security and organizing road traffic in the region.
He highlighted that the presence of the Federal Security Service of Russia on the ground is not a specified requirement in the document. Pashinyan also noted that the agreement allows for the construction of new transport links connecting Nakhchivan with western regions of Azerbaijan.
Despite some disagreements, Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to upholding its sovereignty and fulfilling its obligations under the agreement. He also pointed out the importance of other countries understanding the details of the document to avoid misinterpretations.
