In a bold move, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly recently passed a resolution calling for the court martial of military officers who have been accused of interfering in the affairs of other national institutions over the past two years. The resolution, tabled by MPA Sher Ali Afridi of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, highlights the seriousness of breaching the Constitution and oaths by such actions.
The assembly praised the sacrifices of the army for the country but condemned certain officers for damaging democracy through personal motives and stubbornness. It demanded a stop to unconstitutional acts and interference in politics to pave the way for national progress.
Moreover, the resolution expressed solidarity with the PTI leadership and activists who have faced arrests, calling for their immediate release. Treasury members also voiced concerns over the injustices faced following recent protests and general elections.
The session witnessed impassioned speeches against the alleged misuse of power by certain military officers. Housing minister Dr Amjad Ali detailed personal harassment, highlighting raids and threats from security agencies to pressure politicians into changing loyalties.
The assembly emphasized the need for all institutions to work within constitutional limits, urging an end to undue influence and interference. Overall, the resolution aims to uphold democracy, protect political freedoms, and ensure accountability among all stakeholders.
