Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York this month during the UN General Assembly, according to sources. This meeting holds significance given the strained relations between Israel and Turkey, contrasting with the close collaboration between Greece and Israel, particularly in investment sectors.
Greece is actively engaged in Middle East affairs and maintains strong ties with key players in the region. Mitsotakis will also meet with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and hold a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt. Furthermore, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis is expected to meet his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel Aaty, in New York.
Additionally, Mitsotakis is scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the UN General Assembly, a meeting that could shape Greek-Turkish relations in the upcoming months. Meanwhile, Ankara’s involvement in the Middle East faces challenges, with reports indicating discontent during Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s speech at the Arab League Foreign Ministers Council.
