Chinese and American military commanders resumed talks, following the agreement made by their heads of state in 2023. General Wu Yanan of the PLA Southern Theater Command and U.S. Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo exchanged views on common issues. Talks aim to manage interactions, like those in the South China Sea, reducing misunderstandings and tensions. The U.S. ‘deterrence’ strategy towards China adds to regional tensions, with differing views on military supremacy and deterrence. China emphasizes mutual understanding through dialogue while highlighting the need for cognitive alignment to create a stable and peaceful world. Recent joint military exercises in the South China Sea involving the U.S., Philippines, Australia, and Canada reflect the escalating tensions, as the U.S. seeks to bolster its power in the region.
