Aviation workers in Kenya have ended their strike after the government assured them that the plan to lease the airport to India’s Adani Group would proceed only with the union’s consent. The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) confirmed that demands for job security and protection for workers had been met. Workers were assured that there would be no repercussions for participating in the strike.
The strike was in objection to the proposed lease of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Adani Group, which could potentially lead to job losses for Kenyan workers. Despite the strike causing disruptions earlier in the day, air traffic control services remained operational. The Kenyan government reassured its citizens that their interests would be safeguarded during the airport’s upgrade and modernization.
