Anti-war protesters caused chaos at the Land Forces Expo in Melbourne, clashing with police over Israel’s military actions in Gaza. The event, showcasing over 800 defense companies, attracted demonstrators decrying the deadly consequences of the weapons on display.
Despite being a closed event, protesters gathered outside, hurling missiles at police and chanting against the Australian government’s support of Israel. Police reported injuries and arrests as tensions escalated during the three-day expo.
Jasmine Duff, a spokesperson for Disrupt Land Forces, highlighted the role of Israeli defense companies in the conflict, accusing them of contributing to genocide. The protest aimed to raise awareness of the impact of the weapons exhibited at the expo.
As the event continued amid the disruptions, the clash between protesters and authorities underscored the deep-seated opposition to government policies regarding military involvement. The standoff between activists and security forces symbolized the ongoing debate over the ethics of the arms industry.
