Anambra Electoral Commission announces qualified candidates for election

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has unveiled the roster of eligible contenders for the forthcoming Local Government Elections on September 28. Chairman Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe announced the list’s availability for public scrutiny at ANSIEC’s headquarters and all 21 local government offices.

Osakwe urged candidates to kick off their campaigns and encouraged voters to actively participate in the election process. However, political parties like the APC, PDP, and LP have expressed dissent over the election procedures, alleging irregularities and lack of adherence to due process.

The APC, led by Basil Ejidike, even went as far as withdrawing from the elections, claiming that participating would legalize illegality. The PDP and LP also threatened to pull out for similar reasons.

It’s been a decade since Anambra State held local government elections, with caretaker committees running the 21 LGAs. Amidst controversies, ANSIEC assures the public of a free, fair, and credible election on September 28.
