AHEPA Supreme President, Savas C. Tsivicos, has written an open letter to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos regarding the streaming service’s decision to limit the availability of the “Famagusta” TV series outside Greece due to pressure from Turkish authorities.

The show, “Famagusta,” highlights the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus from a Greek-Cypriot perspective.

Tsivicos expressed his concerns over the ability of the Turkish Radio and TV Supreme Council (RTUK) to influence Netflix’s broadcasting decisions globally.

He emphasized that while Netflix must adhere to censorship laws in different countries, Turkey should not have the authority to dictate content availability on a global scale.

Tsivicos criticized Netflix for complying with Turkish demands, stating that it contributes to Turkey’s authoritarian behavior and disinformation regarding historical events.

The AHEPA chief urged Netflix to reconsider its decision and not be complicit in Turkey’s attempts to suppress historical truths portrayed in “Famagusta.”
