49 dead, 226 communities affected in Kano flood

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that 49 individuals have lost their lives while 226 communities have been impacted by floods and windstorms in 27 Local Government Areas since January 2024. The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, shared this information during a news briefing in Kano.

Areas such as Tudun Wada, Gwale, Wudil, and others were heavily affected, with thousands of houses destroyed and tens of thousands of people displaced. SEMA has been working diligently to provide relief materials and support to the affected individuals in collaboration with other stakeholders.

In order to prevent such disasters in the future, SEMA has organized workshops to address environmental hazards, particularly floods, and urged residents to take precautionary measures such as clearing drainage systems and avoiding building on waterways. Governor Abba Yusuf has been commended for his support in alleviating the suffering of the victims.

SEMA continues to prioritize the protection of lives and property by implementing proactive measures and collaborating with the community. Let us all come together to support those in need during this challenging time.
