UK Green Party makes history: Declares Israel’s war in Gaza a ‘genocide’

The Green Party of England and Wales has taken a bold stance by officially recognizing Israel’s actions in Gaza as a genocide, making it the first major British political party to do so. With a significant focus on Gaza during the July general election, the party secured four seats in parliament.

At their annual conference, the party passed a motion in support of the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel’s assault on Gaza. The motion emphasized the party’s commitment to openly supporting BDS and holding Israel accountable for its actions, advocating for Palestinian rights to equality and self-determination.

The motion was proposed by a group named Greens for Palestine, showcasing the party’s leadership on the issue. Party member Mothin Ali highlighted the importance of recognizing the ground reality in Gaza for achieving peace.

‘End further arms sales to Israel’

Party leaders criticized the Labour government’s response to the Gaza conflict and called for an immediate ceasefire. They emphasized the need to end arms sales to Israel and other countries violating international law.
