Top NYPD official linked to Eric Adams may step down after FBI raids: Report

New York City Police Department Commissioner Edward Caban is set to resign following an FBI raid on his home last week. Caban, appointed by Mayor Eric Adams last year, faced scrutiny after FBI agents searched his residence and seized his cellphone. His twin brother, James Caban, is also under investigation for alleged influence peddling. Additionally, at least six other NYPD officials connected to Adams had their homes raided.

Despite Caban initially denying rumors of resignation, he is expected to step down after meeting with NYPD leadership. Mayor Adams has expressed support for Caban but acknowledged uncertainty about his continued role as commissioner. The FBI investigation into the NYPD follows a separate inquiry into Adams’ alleged ties to Turkey.

While some politicians have suggested the FBI probe is politically motivated, there is no concrete evidence to support these claims. The investigation into Adams and his associates stems from concerns about potential misconduct, not political bias.
