Romania’s Defense Ministry has confirmed the discovery of Russian drone fragments near the village of Periprava, across the Danube River from Ukraine. Investigations are ongoing in another possible drone impact site near the village of Caraorman. The Defense Ministry condemned the recent Russian drone attack on Ukraine, which violated Romanian airspace.
Residents in Romanian counties received alerts of possible falling objects and took shelter as two F-16 fighter jets monitored the airspace. This is not the first time Russian drone wreckage has been found on Romanian soil, as Russia continues to target Ukrainian port infrastructure near the border.
In a similar incident, Latvia confirmed a Russian drone equipped with explosives crashed on Latvian soil, resulting in the summoning of the Russian Embassy’s charge d’affaires. This marks the first case of a Russian drone crashing in Latvia.
These recent events highlight escalating tensions in the region and the violation of airspace by Russian drones. As neighboring countries respond to these incidents, the concern for further provocations remains high in Eastern Europe.
