Poaching Decimates Elephant Population in Sambisa Forest

Exciting news from Borno state! The Director of Forestry and Wildlife has revealed that elephants are not present in the Sambisa forest due to poaching and habitat destruction. A survey conducted before the Boko Haram insurgency confirmed the absence of elephants in the forest. However, there have been reports of elephants from a neighboring forest in Cameroon moving towards Borno, sparking hope for the return of these majestic creatures.

Despite roaming around border areas, the elephants have not yet made their way to Sambisa forest, but have been causing damage to farmlands. The government remains optimistic about the possibility of elephants finding a more suitable habitat in Sambisa forest.

Stay tuned for more updates on the potential return of elephants to Borno state and the efforts to protect them from poaching and habitat destruction.
