Moroccan Government Allocates 40 Million Dirhams to Aid Farmers Affected by Torrential Rains
In response to the devastating impact of torrential rains and floods on several provinces from September 6-9, the Moroccan government has pledged 40 million dirhams to assist affected farmers. Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, announced this allocation during a meeting with members of the Regional Chamber of Agriculture in Ouarzazate.
The funding will be utilized to restore water infrastructure and revitalize agricultural activities in the affected provinces of Drâa-Tafilalet. Minister Sadiki also emphasized the implementation of the Green Morocco Plan and Generation Green strategy, which includes ambitious projects like the planting of 5 million palm trees by 2030 and initiatives to support small-scale producers.
Despite the tragic loss of life and damage to property caused by the severe weather, the government is actively working to restore essential services, such as electricity, drinking water, and telecommunications networks. Additionally, efforts are underway to provide immediate aid to affected families through the distribution of food rations, tents, and blankets.
