Karnataka’s skill scheme targets guaranteed jobs under 80 characters

The Karnataka government has unveiled its new skilling scheme, Nipuna Karnataka, aimed at providing guaranteed employment opportunities to the youth in collaboration with major companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. With an investment of Rs 300 crore, the scheme aims to bridge the gap between industry demands and skill development by focusing on emerging technologies like cyber security and artificial intelligence.

The initiative seeks to equip the youth with industry-relevant skills while also extending its benefits to women on maternity breaks. By fostering strong public-private partnerships, the government aims to position Karnataka as a global leader in the IT sector, as stated by IT/BT minister Priyank Kharge. The scheme, approved by the Cabinet, comes as a strategic move following the backlash faced by a proposed law promising quotas to locals in the private sector.

The implementation details, including whether the skilling will be conducted online or offline, are still being worked upon. However, it is confirmed that the scheme will focus on urban and district centers rather than villages. With the inclusion of industry players and educational institutions, Nipuna Karnataka is set to revolutionize the skilling landscape in the state.
