Israel launched a heavy bombardment on Gaza on Sunday, with no signs of a ceasefire in sight. Despite the ongoing attacks, Gaza’s civil defense agency reported nearly a dozen casualties, including five in a refugee camp. The Israeli military claimed to have targeted multiple Hamas sites in Gaza.
The situation in Gaza remains dire for its 2.4 million residents, many of whom have been displaced multiple times. The constant fear and lack of safe spaces have taken a toll on the people, like cancer patient Raeed Hamad.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reiterated the commitment to eliminate Hamas during a visit to central Gaza. The conflict has also escalated to the northern front, where Hezbollah and Israeli forces exchanged fire.
International efforts, including mediation by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, are underway to broker a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Israeli protesters, demanding the release of hostages, have been putting pressure on the government.
The situation worsened after the fatal shooting of activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi in the West Bank, with conflicting reports about her death. The incident has further fueled calls for an end to the violence in the region.
