“What is happening just on the other side of this wall is not a crisis created by nature. It is a human-made crisis. A human-made tragedy” – Josep Borrell.

EU Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell, emphasized the urgent need to address the crisis in Gaza, referring to it as a human-made tragedy during his visit to the Egyptian side of Rafah Crossing. He expressed concerns about Gaza potentially becoming a lawless and violent region, impacting the security and stability of the Middle East. Borrell called for the restoration of law and order in Gaza and highlighted the limited capacity of the EU to enforce a ceasefire, urging for immediate truce to facilitate humanitarian aid flow and assist the Palestinian people.

He also criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, dismissing their defense claims and emphasizing the need for a political solution. Borrell underlined the devastating humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging the opening of borders for aid access and condemning Israel’s aggressive offensive that has led to a high number of casualties, including women and children, and mass displacement.
