Finance Minister Reviews Structural Reforms in Power Sector
The Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, recently conducted a review of the ongoing structural reforms in the power sector aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery. During the meeting with Chairman Mark Skelton and other officials from K-Electric, the Minister emphasized the importance of reorganizing the boards of directors of Distribution Companies (Discos) by incorporating specialists from the private sector. This move is expected to improve the overall quality of services and effectiveness of the boards.
KE presented its plans to address Karachi’s growing energy demands through renewable energy sources, with a focus on reducing electricity costs for residents. The Minister commended KE’s efforts and expressed support for their transition to renewables. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to private sector participation in discos and gencos, with the process of privatizing three discos already underway.
