South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has made some significant changes to his administration recently. Daniel Badagbu Rambasa has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, replacing Elia Richard Box. Daniel, a senior official at the ruling SPLM party in Juba, brings valuable experience as a former Western Equatoria minister to his new role.
President Kiir also replaced the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, showing a commitment to ensuring effective governance in all sectors. These changes were made in line with the presidential powers granted by the Constitution and the provisions of the 2018 peace deal.
South Sudan, a country formed after a long conflict with Sudan in 2011, is currently governed by a transitional unity government. Despite a planned national election in December 2024, concerns remain about the readiness and preparations for a successful election. The possibility of a second extension to the transition period looms due to delays in implementing key aspects of the peace agreement.
