Renowned Arab expert Atwan recently addressed the baseless US accusation of Iran transferring short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine. In his article for the London-based Arabic-language newspaper Rai al-Youm, Atwan highlighted the US and NATO’s growing concern over Iran’s advancements in military industries, particularly in missiles, posing a challenge to NATO’s military presence in the West Asia region.
Atwan emphasized that Iran’s UN mission vehemently denied the allegations, blaming the US for prolonging the conflict by supplying advanced weapons to Ukraine. Amidst US shipments of weapons worth $250 million to Ukraine, including air defense missiles, artillery ammunition, and more, Atwan criticized the hypocrisy of targeting Russia with long-range missiles while aiding Ukraine with modern weapons like F-16 fighters and tanks.
He condemned the double standard of intervention in the war, noting Russia’s objection to such actions as crossing red lines. Atwan’s analysis shed light on the complexities and contradictions in the ongoing conflict, urging for a more balanced approach towards resolving the crisis.
