Sudan dismisses UN experts’ plea for ‘impartial’ force to shield civilians

Sudan has dismissed a proposal put forth by UN experts for the deployment of an independent and impartial force to protect civilians affected by ongoing conflict in the region. The conflict, which has been raging since April last year between the army and paramilitary forces, has resulted in numerous casualties and a dire humanitarian situation.

UN experts described the violations committed by both sides as “harrowing” and potentially constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity. They urged for the immediate deployment of a force tasked with safeguarding civilians.

However, the Sudanese government, aligned with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s army, rejected the UN’s recommendations in their entirety. The foreign ministry released a statement asserting their stance on the matter.
