Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced the immediate dispatch of a full battery of MIM-23 Hawk anti-missile defense system, including six launchers, to Ukraine during a Contact Group meeting in Ramstein, Germany. The equipment, pre-positioned in Poland, will be sent to Kyiv, bringing the total number of Hawk launchers provided by Spain to twelve. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude, highlighting the system’s importance in defending against Russian missile and drone attacks.
Despite its age, the HAWK system has proven vital in combating Russian threats, with the model provided by Spain featuring advanced radars and upgraded missiles. Robles emphasized Spain’s commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities through ongoing aid and defense initiatives. Since the start of Russia’s invasion, Spain has delivered various military equipment and training to Ukrainian forces, including the HAWK system.
The HAWK system has shown effectiveness against both older and more modern Russian aircraft and missiles. Spanish support has extended to field hospitals, medical supplies, and essential training, with Ukrainian operators praising the system’s reliability and flexibility in combat situations. This latest assistance further solidifies the partnership between Spain and Ukraine in bolstering defense against external threats.
