Latvia’s president confirmed a Russian military drone crashed in the eastern part of the country, as airspace breaches along NATO’s eastern borders have been increasing. The drone flew into Latvia from Belarus and crashed in Rezekne, prompting the need for stronger border defenses. This incident comes amid deteriorating relations between the Baltic state and Moscow since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Romania also denounced a Russian attack drone breaching its airspace to target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing aggression by Moscow. Russia has been carrying out nighttime attacks on Ukrainian cities, with Poland also experiencing violations of its airspace by Russian missiles and drones.
In response, Poland has expressed the desire to defend itself from Russian missiles, despite opposition from NATO. The escalating tensions in the region underscore the need for collective action by NATO allies to ensure the security and stability of Eastern Europe.
