PTI rally turns violent as leaders demand Imran’s release – Pakistan

PTI leaders rallied on the outskirts of Islamabad on Sunday, demanding the “immediate release” of their founder, Imran Khan, while criticising the government for marginalising the party as police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The party staged the rally to gain support for Imran’s release, who has been imprisoned since last August. Despite expected release after court appeals, Imran was arrested by NAB in a new case.

Amid the rally, PTI leaders voiced concerns about party marginalisation and Imran Khan’s incarceration, with plans to secure his release. Supporters clashed with police towards the end of the rally, leading to tear gas dispersion.

Police block Islamabad’s entry points ahead of rally

Capital police blocked entry points amid reports of a ‘medium-level’ terrorism threat, adding to security concerns for the public gathering.

‘Fascist government’

Former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser criticized the government’s blockades, labeling them measures of a “fascist government”. He accused the government of defying court orders and creating a hostile environment.

Overall, the rally highlighted PTI’s push for Imran Khan’s release, concerns of party marginalization, clashes with police, and criticism of government actions, shedding light on ongoing political tensions in the country.
