Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign Set to Begin Tomorrow
A nationwide anti-polio campaign is scheduled to commence on Monday, aiming to vaccinate over 30 million children under the age of five, as reported by state broadcaster Radio Pakistan. Several districts in Sindh have already launched week-long vaccination drives ahead of the nationwide initiative, targeting 9.4 million children in 30 districts.
With 17 polio cases reported in Pakistan this year, the country faces challenges in eradicating the virus due to security issues, vaccine hesitancy, and misinformation. Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, remains one of the last two countries where polio is endemic.
Despite obstacles, the government and international organizations are intensifying efforts to eliminate the disease by conducting immunization drives and increasing awareness. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism during a recent event, stating, “Polio will never be seen again on the territory of Pakistan.”
Through coordinated efforts and community participation, the campaign aims to ensure the successful eradication of polio from Pakistan’s borders.
