The Houthi rebels claim to have shot down a US military drone over Yemen, continuing their attacks in support of Palestinians and drawing US strikes.
The Houthi group has disrupted shipping trade through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait by carrying out attacks on ships with links to Israel in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing war in Gaza. They recently claimed to have shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone over Marib, marking the eighth drone of this type to be downed since the war began. Despite not releasing footage of the attack, they continue to strengthen their defensive capabilities against US and UK air strikes.
US strikes in Yemen?
Following the drone downing, multiple US-led strikes were reported near Ibb. The US military has not confirmed the drone incident, but claimed to have destroyed a Houthi-launched drone and support vehicle earlier. With rising tensions, the Houthis have targeted crude oil tankers, prompting accusations of terrorism from the US. Despite various attacks, the Houthis vow to continue until Israel stops its actions in Gaza, where over 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives.
