Five Syrian fighters supported by Turkey slain by Kurdish forces

Turkish-backed fighters faced a deadly ambush by Kurdish forces near Afrin, resulting in casualties. The Syrian Democratic Forces targeted Turkish-backed groups in the vicinity, sparking intense clashes.

Further conflict erupted near Manbij, with reports of significant losses for Turkish-backed groups. A Turkish drone strike in Kobane claimed at least one life.

Afrin, a key battleground since 2018, saw clashes between Turkish and Kurdish forces. The operation displaced Kurds and settled Arabs in the area.

The conflict stems from Turkey viewing the YPG as an extension of the PKK, leading to ongoing insurgent attacks in the region.

Ankara considers both YPG and PKK as terrorist organizations, despite YPG’s role in fighting against ISIS alongside the US.
