Time Magazine has recognized China’s internet watchdog head and the chairman of ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, as two of the most influential figures in the field of artificial intelligence. Zhuang Rongwen, director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, was named to Time’s 100 AI list for his efforts to balance censorship practices with innovation in AI technology in China.
Under Zhuang’s leadership, China became the first country to issue regulations on generative AI technology. Other notable figures in the AI sector from China include ByteDance chairman Liang Rubo and Baichuan AI founder Wang Xiaochuan.
ByteDance has heavily invested in AI, developing chatbots and video generators. Despite facing challenges in the US, ByteDance remains committed to advancing AI technology.
