Worsening Dengue Outbreak in Bangladesh
Another person has died of dengue in Bangladesh, with 463 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) warns that the situation is expected to worsen in the coming days.
Of the new cases, 193 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka, while 270 were admitted to hospitals outside the capital. Since January, there have been a total of 15,670 cases and 96 deaths from dengue in the country. In 2019, Bangladesh reported a record 1,705 deaths and 321,179 cases.
Entomologist Kabirul Bashar warns that the weather conditions in September are conducive to dengue breeding, and without proper measures, the situation may worsen in October. He emphasizes the importance of hot spot management and larvae control in combating the disease.
