Zelensky urges end to Ukraine war by autumn

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is calling on NATO countries to pressure Russia into agreeing to Kiev’s peace terms this fall. This plea was made during a meeting with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where military aid coordination for Ukraine takes place.

Zelensky is urging Western nations to assist in establishing joint weapons production in Ukraine for drones and missiles. He emphasized the need for funding to quickly produce essential weaponry to end the war by exerting real pressure on Russia for peace.

In response, Austin highlighted the importance of weapons manufacturing and the US’s collaboration with Ukraine to develop missile systems. Washington has allocated over $200 million for critical components to enable Ukraine to produce drones and electronic warfare systems.

Despite recent setbacks, including Russian troops advancing towards Pokrovsk, Ukraine initiated an invasion in Russia’s Kursk Region to prompt Moscow to withdraw its soldiers from the Donbass. However, Russian forces have continued to make gains.

Peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev collapsed earlier in 2022 over irreconcilable demands regarding Ukraine’s borders. While Russia is open to restarting talks, it insists on its terms and aims to neutralize Ukrainian actions destabilizing border regions like Kursk.
