Second phase of polio vaccination drive for children commences.

Amidst the ongoing Israeli bombardment, the polio vaccination drive in Gaza has entered its second phase, with over 354,000 children already vaccinated. Despite the efforts to protect children from polio, they still face the risk of being killed or injured by indiscriminate attacks.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) workers have described the conditions as overcrowded, with a high demand for vaccines and limited supplies. The vaccination campaign comes as the war on the Strip continues for its 11th month.

The resurgence of polio in Gaza after 25 years has been attributed to Israel’s actions, which have severely impacted the region’s healthcare infrastructure. Despite challenges such as restricted medical evacuations and other untreated diseases, the vaccination campaign is set to expand to other parts of Gaza, with the goal of reaching at least 90 percent of children.

MAP has called for an immediate ceasefire to allow for uninhibited humanitarian access and medical care. The vaccination drive, described as one of the most complex in the world, aims to protect children in Gaza amid the ongoing crisis.
